Project Timeline
There will be a specific sequence of tasks, the whole of which can be said to result in a completed project. The project plan is a living document. It calls out the day to day activities, but also permits schedule changes to accommodate customer and sub-contractor needs. The installation of tab A into slot B is likely to be dependent on a score of constraints. These might include local permits, arrival of components, completion of receiving documents, prior installation of utilities, quality control testing, availability of subcontractors and ongoing customer activities, to name a few. The purpose of the project plan is to anticipate the tasks and manage them. The best project plans build in slack time and contingent costs to accommodate unexpected events.
While QPS is the official manager of the project plan, it is expected that the customer will have a representative who stays closely attuned and involved with the day to day decisions that surround project management. For larger projects, a planning committee can be assembled to provide prudent customer oversight of the project.
